Good news everyone!

VO1PCW is now our call sign!

I checked the Industry Canada website this morning and it looks like that we are now VO1PCW.  I got really excited when I seen this and it made my courses go a lot faster, even though we can’t do anything until we get some equipment.

In the coming weeks, if people are interested, I’d like to try and come up with some antenna ideas for a couple bands.  For antenna, it needs to be something that we can put up in Victoria Park and haul down at the end of the meeting, low cost, minimal waste, and functional/efficient.

I’d like to build one for the 10m band (28.0 – 29.7 MHz) as Andrew has a Yaesu FT-8900 quad band (10m, 6m 2m, and 70cm) mobile radio in his car that we can use.  If the band is open, we can use this to chat with people, probably as far as the north eastern USA (New England states), or possibly further.  If we can get a system working, everybody present will have the opportunity to call out and try and make some contacts as long as there is at least one person with an amateur licence present (Andrew, David, or myself).

Anyway, that’s my spiel for this morning.  I had to get that out there while I’m still super stoked!
